Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh. findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Matthew 7:7-8

These words hold absolute truth within them.

Ask, because without asking the answer will always be no.  Just like I said, asking yourself the right questions to generate the answers you already hold within you. If we want to understand ourselves more, or get through an issue that we may be having. It is so important to ask ourselves the questions that will give us the answers we so desperately need. The same goes for our wants on the outside; maybe it’s that raise you’ve been wanting, the person that you have been burning to hangout with, or the advice that you have been longing for.  By asking questions, we only get peace within our hearts, even IF the answer is no.  At least we have an answer… sometimes it doesn’t matter what the answer is, but the peace that we have one to be firm in.

Seek. If we do not actively seek the answers we need, we find ourselves running in place or even worse…in circles. Try something new that pushes you towards the answers that you are looking for. If that doesn’t work, try again…but when I say try again…do so, but coming at it from a different angle. As the definition of insanity is doing something over and over again, expecting a different outcome. We are ALL guilty of this. Whether it is in a relationship that we want to work out or a habit that we personally struggle with. Unless you choose to seek out DIFFERENT ways to approach it, you will continuously find the same answer. For me, one of the ways I like to practice this is take myself into the wilderness. Being outdoors among the trees and fresh air gives me a clear mind to seek out the answers that I long for.

Recently, I traveled to the beautiful space of Sedona and hiked West Fork Trail. Truly one of the most awe inspiring places that I have been… but not only that, the most amazing part about this journey was how deafening quiet it was. I could hear every breath that I took into my lungs, every leaf sway in the wind, and most importantly, I could hear my thoughts whispering through my mind. Something about having this sense of peace surrounding me, settles the storm within. I was able to truly go inside myself with a clear mind to ask the questions that I needed to be answered. Those of which I cannot truly focus on with all of the surrounding nonsense of daily life.

Now, it is time to find that state of being that allows you to calm that same storm within you. Whether that is sitting in a coffee house listening to music, hiking mountain tops, or being alone at home.

Where is it, that calms you the most?  The place where you can truly seek with a clear mind. What does it look like to you?  Find it.

Only then, will the doors that are locked…the ones that you truly want to walk through, will be opened.

So, why seek?

Seek, for peace of mind in having an answer. But do not dwell on whether or not it was the one you wanted.

Seek, for the understanding that one day… you will look back and wonder why… you ever wandered.

  1. It took Israel 40 years of wandering in the wilderness to find the way that was meant for them. Whenever life starts weighing in on me, is when I head to the wilderness to hit the reset button.
